Missions Opportunities

A well known national group advocating legalized abortion encourages its sympathizers to 'fund their passion,' i.e. put their money where their mouth is!

As believers, what is our passion?  Isn't it to see people come to know Christ as Lord and Savior?  If it is, why are so many missionaries under budget, why do parachurch ministries make desperate appeals for funding, or sell 'Christian Souvenirs' to make up for voluntary giving?

Perhaps the problem is multifaceted.  When you consider missions, do you think money is critical in the promoting of the Gospel?  Do you feel missionaries should get a second job to fund their passion?  Is their passion your passion?

Matthew 6:33 tells us that if we seek His kingdom first, the Lord will provide for all our needs.  At the time when books on the coming financial disaster are so popular, do you wonder how you will make it?  Does the thought of giving away your money seem a financial mistake?

Perhaps you haven't considered tithing, let alone sacrificial giving.  Perhaps you're unaware of the work of missionaries.  Perhaps you fear that God somehow won't provide for you.  Perhaps you think poverty is having only one car, or one job.  Perhaps you've reasoned that, since God loves a cheerful giver (2 Cor. 9:7), and you know you wouldn't be cheerful if you gave, that giving isn't for you.  Perhaps you don't like rules.. you don't like someone begging for money... or, perhaps you don't know what the Scripture says about giving, or perhaps you don't care.  The checkbook often tells a great deal about our passion.  Are you funding your passion?  Is your passion seeing others come to Christ?
